Philosophy & Astrology

I have been to quite a few of these philosophical things. Have read a quite a lot of good, better and best books, both in original and in translation. But then, I always read them as if they were in separate silos. I never had the need to integrate one with the other. Dwaita philosophy was on its own, while same was true of astrology. It was a bit late in life that I realised that astrology without being tagged to philosophy didnt make too much sense, in a larger perspective. Sri Madhwacharya makes it very clear in his aNubhasya about the nature of karma and its partitioning in terms of sanchita, aagami and prarabdha. And most importantly, that one HAS to experience both the karmas that we do, the good and the bad. One ought to enjoy the good karmas, while the bad ones make you suffer. I remembered the discussion that I had with Mahesh, underneath central pergola at the campus early this year. Good karmas and the bad karmas are independent of each other while granting their fruits. No netting business as in the case of accounting. Not set off principle of one for the other, as we did in banking. What clarity this brought to my overall perspective !! life is not a book of accounts, but its a book that is a teacher in itself, one that teaches you to understand the larger purpose of life and move towards moksha. That karma which has started, literally is prarabdha. By definition, Madhwacharya states that one cannot escape from prarabdha karma !! That is what gives the ability, if any, to the astrologer to predict an event, If only things could be changed, or netted off !! Then astrology would be another episode to be watched like psephology. That brings one to the larger picture. God in His infinite compassion for his bhaktas, will purge them of sanchita and aagami karmas. All we need to do is work towards that prasada of Vishnu… Every prediction that I see going right, only reinforces this view. The view that this world is not a random game with arbit happenings. There is after all a big method in this apparent madness. It is for researchers to see the method. Researcher here is one who is in search of truth, the absolute one !!!
